About Greyston Bakery

How Bernie Glassman Founded Greyston Bakery in Yonkers, New York

Greyston Bakery changed into an installation in 1982 via Zen Buddhist instructor Bernie Glassman in Yonkers, New York. Rooted in standards of compassion and community guide, the bakery got down to resolve neighborhood poverty and unemployment by providing meaningful work opportunities. Over four decades later, it stays a most suitable business bakery powering most important international brands—including providing the truffles for Ben & Jerry's ice cream.

The Open Hiring Model and Social Impact Mission

At the heart of Greyston Bakery is its pioneering open-hiring model. Greyston hires personnel without asking for resumes, accomplishing historical past assessments, or acting drug checks. Anyone seeking paintings in reality puts their name on a list, and when a job opens up, the following individual is employed. This approach offers people facing obstacles to employment—which includes past incarceration, homelessness, or lack of work experience—a 2nd chance to construct economic balance and self-reliance.

Delicious Gourmet Baked Goods Supporting Community Development

Greyston Bakery operates on an easy philosophy: "We don't lease humans to bake muffins; we bake truffles to rent people." Every buy in their gourmand muffins and blondies at once budget job creation, smooth abilities training, and worker assist offerings.
